Service overview

Get the right help for an urgent system problem

An emergency call-out provides out-of-hours help for urgent fire and security system problems. It can involve investigating a persistent alarm fault, examining a security system that will not operate correctly or assessing damaged equipment. The immediate aim is to understand the fault and establish a safe, practical course of action, not to promise a complete repair before the system has been inspected.

This service is available for domestic, commercial and industrial properties across Glasgow and Central Scotland. It is relevant when a fault cannot reasonably wait for a routine visit, particularly where an important protective function may be impaired. The urgency depends on the system, the premises and the consequences of leaving the problem unresolved, rather than simply the time of day.

Professional diagnosis helps separate a system fault from an underlying incident and avoids improvised repairs that could make the problem worse. H.E Fire & Security discusses the symptoms, access and immediate concerns before arranging the next step. Emergency availability means you can contact us at any hour; it does not imply a guaranteed arrival time or guaranteed availability of every replacement part.

The cost of waiting

Do not let an urgent fault lead to unsafe decisions

Urgent problems are easier to manage when immediate danger, technical faults and repair decisions are kept distinct. Clear information helps avoid unnecessary actions, while an honest explanation of limitations gives the responsible person a basis for managing the situation.

A real incident may be mistaken for a fault

Smoke, signs of fire or an immediate threat must not be treated as an engineering problem first. Evacuate where necessary and contact the emergency services rather than wait for a maintenance response.

Protective functions may be impaired

A fault can affect detection, signalling, recording or access arrangements. The consequences need assessing for the actual premises so appropriate interim measures can be considered while the problem is investigated.

Repeated resets can hide useful evidence

Clearing messages or removing power can lose information and may interrupt other functions. Record symptoms if safe and seek advice before attempting actions that you do not understand or have not been authorised to perform.

An improvised fix may create another hazard

Bypassing a device, altering wiring or forcing access equipment can introduce electrical, security or escape risks. Leave technical work to a competent person and keep occupants clear of damaged equipment.

Common mistakes we see

  • Waiting for an engineer instead of calling 999 when there is fire, immediate danger or a crime in progress.
  • Assuming round-the-clock availability means a guaranteed arrival within a set number of minutes.
  • Switching equipment off repeatedly without considering the protection or building functions it supports.
  • Leaving a temporarily restored system without arranging any recommended follow-up repair or verification.

Our process

How We Deliver 24/7 Emergency Call-Outs

  1. 01

    1. Take the call and establish the immediate concern

Call 07380 866221 with your location, system type and symptoms. We discuss whether there is an immediate danger, who can provide access and what information is available before agreeing the appropriate next step.

  2. 02

    2. Inspect and diagnose the urgent fault

On site, the investigation follows the symptoms and relevant system information. We assess the affected equipment and explain findings, taking account of any loss of protection and the limitations of the access or records available.

  3. 03

    3. Carry out authorised remedial work

Where appropriate and practicable, we undertake agreed work to address the immediate problem. If a full repair needs parts or further investigation, the limitations and proposed follow-up are explained rather than concealed behind a temporary reset.

  4. 04

    4. Verify the affected functions

We check the functions relevant to the work and explain what has or has not been restored. Testing may need coordination with occupants, site management or monitoring arrangements, particularly when alarms or controlled doors are involved.

  5. 05

    5. Hand over the outcome and repair plan

You receive an explanation of the work, remaining concerns and recommended next actions. Emergency attendance is not itself an installation warranty; any new installation work carries our stated one-year or qualifying three-year installation warranty terms.

What you get

The Benefits, in Plain Terms

Get help outside office hours

24/7 call-out availability gives you a route to discuss urgent faults overnight, at weekends and during holidays instead of waiting for the next business day.

Keep immediate safety in focus

Initial discussion distinguishes technical concerns from situations requiring emergency services, while site findings help inform appropriate precautions around impaired equipment.

Avoid damage from improvised repairs

A structured investigation reduces reliance on repeated resets, forced mechanisms or ad hoc changes that may worsen the original fault or damage other components.

Make the next expense clearer

Diagnosis and agreed scope help you understand whether immediate work, replacement parts or a planned return visit is needed before committing to additional work.

Verify more than a cleared warning

Relevant post-work checks help establish the actual state of the affected functions, rather than assume that a quiet panel means the whole problem has been resolved.

Understand the position before handover

Clear communication about restored functions and outstanding limitations gives the responsible person a practical basis for decisions after the emergency visit has ended.

In depth

Fire alarm faults and unwanted activations

A fire alarm sounding or displaying a fault needs an appropriate response from the responsible person. Follow the site fire procedure and do not assume an activation is false because similar events have happened before. Where there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, evacuation and emergency service contact take priority over arranging an engineer.

Once the immediate situation has been managed, an engineering visit can investigate relevant panel messages, devices, power supplies and system history. A fault may affect only part of a system, but that does not make it safe to ignore. The responsible person needs to understand any impairment and consider suitable precautions while repairs are arranged.

Intruder alarms, CCTV and access faults

An intruder alarm that will not set, a loss of CCTV images or an access-control problem can have different causes and consequences. Tell us exactly what has changed and whether other equipment has lost power or communication. System details and recent work can help narrow the investigation without encouraging unsafe attempts to dismantle equipment.

Door and gate problems need particular care because security and safe movement can interact. Do not force a moving gate or bypass a safety device to regain operation. An access-control fault must not lead to escape routes being made unsafe; immediate site arrangements should be managed by the responsible person with the actual risks in view.

Emergency repairs and temporary arrangements

Some faults can be resolved during the initial visit, while others need compatible parts, specialist information or a planned return. Older equipment and intermittent symptoms can make diagnosis more involved. We explain those constraints rather than promise every system can be fully repaired on the first attendance regardless of condition or parts availability.

If a temporary arrangement is proposed, its purpose and limitations need to be clear. A temporary measure is not proof that the original design has been restored or that normal operation can continue indefinitely. The person responsible for the premises should understand any outstanding actions and arrange the recommended follow-up without letting an interim solution become permanent by default.

Call-outs, monitoring and planned maintenance

A call-out is a response to an urgent concern; monitoring is a separately arranged service that receives relevant system signals. H.E Fire & Security offers both 24/7 call-outs and 24/7 monitoring, but having access to one does not automatically mean the other is already connected to your premises. Existing arrangements should be checked before relying on them.

Planned maintenance remains important after an emergency repair. Applicable guidance may include BS 5839-1 for non-domestic fire alarms, BS EN 50131 for intruder alarm systems and BS EN 62676 for video surveillance systems. The relevant requirements depend on the system and work involved; a short emergency intervention is not a complete assessment against every applicable standard.

FAQ

24/7 Emergency Call-Outs Questions

Emergency attendance and remedial work are quoted per project, with the basis of the charge explained when you call. We also offer free initial site surveys for planned work; an urgent out-of-hours attendance is not automatically a free survey. The cost depends on the system, fault, access and work required.
